Stress is not an illness...but you might feel that it is. A degree of stress is natural and healthy, inducing the production of adrenaline which helps us perform better. However, overwhelming and continuing stress can lead to DiStress and cause many health and emotional problems. You might find it hard to sleep, become mildly depressed, feel anxious, and/or experience other seemingly unrelated symptoms such as asthma, irritable bowel and a range of other debilitating problems. Whatever the cause of your stress, managing it is the key to feeling and getting better. Autogenic Training (AT or ‘autogenics’) is a self-help method using good quality, easily learned relaxation, which switches off the fight-flight stress response. Practise for a few minutes 2-3 times a day and you can literally change the way your mind-body works. And you are likely to reduce or eliminate your symptoms.
