By the time you read this you’ll probably be heartily sick of the hype surrounding the forthcoming elections - but they WILL soon be over!

We are very lucky in Watford because, as a marginal constituency, your vote really can affect the flavour of national as well as local government.

Recent - and indeed not-so-recent events - have left people understandably and justifiably angry and disgusted with politics, politicians and indeed the general state of things.
We are an angry nation.

Despite the optimistic forecasts for recovery, let’s not kid ourselves that everything’s now getting rosy and that the worst recession in living memory was just an economic blip. There is a long tough time ahead for everyone in Britain. In many ways, a revolution is needed in politics and more particularly in our so-called democratic system.

What was once a system of government that was the envy of the world - and was indeed adopted in many parts of it, has not only failed to keep pace with the times, but has atrophied to such an extent that many citizens may refuse to vote. Please don't waste your opportunity.

We invited five prospective parliamentary candidates (PPCs) for Watford to tell our readers why we should vote for them. Here’s what happened…

The Green Party and the Liberal Democrats readily accepted our invitation.

UKIP declined. Labour said they had already committed all her budget and the Conservatives said they would get back to us - but that was the last we heard from them…

There are strict limits on what PPCs can spend on campaigns, so we do understand that your flea magazine may not be every PPCs preferred medium for communicating with you. But we’re delighted that Ian Brandon and Sal Brinton have elected to do so and we hope you’ll read their messages and consider carefully what they have to say before you cast your vote.

Watford is a marginal constituency - your vote really will count - so choose carefully!

Although your local Flea magazine has no political agenda, the forthcoming general election is probably the most significant since World War II. While there is much wrong with our democracy, REAL CHANGE will only happen if YOU vote for it.

Don’t waste your opportunity to change the course of Britain’s future

Don't forget to check our List of parliamentary candidates that includes brief background information on each to help you make your mind up..... as well as links to their party's policies and manifestos. Look out too for that daily update from May 1st -that will be linked from this page.

In Watford on May 6th, as well as voting for our next MP, you’ll be expected to vote for your Executive Mayor and a local councillor too! For the local elections, here's a list of present councillors that may help you. http://www.hertsdirect.org/havesay/councillors/twcbor4y/10682232

But, whatever your political persuasion, PLEASE DO VOTE.
