All New at The Horns
Pam Cook has been licensee of The Horns, Hempstead Road, for almost 9 years now, ever since she approached the previous landlord of the failing pub with a leaflet through the door and an offer of purchase. Things have certainly moved on.
Pam and new business partner Sean McNicholas have a cunning plan for 2010. Simply the same as it always has been… providing patrons with the best in live music. Voted ‘Best Bar None’ for the second year in a row, the accolade, says Pam is well deserved: ‘The whole team at The Horns is responsible for where we are today. It’s a great achievement to have been rewarded for best pub management, second year running.’
You’ll know from the moment you enter that you’ve found a top venue. The Horns is spotless with a well stocked, attractive bar diverting your eyes momentarily from the imposing raised stage area which has in the past showcased many famous faces, as well as dozens of upcoming bands from all over the country.
Outside, the beer garden is just as welcoming and Pam has no plans to alienate her smoking clientele. The patio area is well covered, offering heated sitting space in winter and generous shading from the long, hot English summer… ‘Our patrons are music lovers – many of them smokers and I believe a good pub should cater for everyone. We need to diversify or we close down.’
The weekly music programme:
- Sunday 12.30 til 2.30pm sees Trad Jazz together with the Horns’ famous Sunday roasts!! From 3.30pm bands play a diversity of music, R & B, Rock and Roll, Soul and Funk. Sunday evenings feature a variety of quizzes, Karaoke and Rock n Roll DJ.
- Mondays we have up and coming bands,
- Tuesday offers anyone the chance to book the venue for their night out. The Horns even offer patrons the opportunity of booking part of the venue for private parties – with bubbly thrown in!
- Wednesdays are Open Mic Nights,
- Thursdays is Tribute bands night (Ticket only)
- Fridays theres a 60s/70s/80s disco from 9pm-1am
- Saturdays it’s rock covers bands.
Pam is optimistic about the future: ‘These past 8 months have been challenging, and not just because of the economic situation, so I’m particularly grateful to my staff and especially manageress Nicky for all the great support.’
