Welcome
Hi and welcome to the Autumn 2009 edition of the Watford Flea.
Here's hoping all you parents survived the secondary school transfer scramble
Why? Well, because I am going through it myself right now and Watford is not the easiest place to experience the perils, pitfalls, highs and lows that come with this process. Its the single biggest educational challenge facing most parents of children aged 8-11 and the systems can be incredibly confusing.
The first important step is to question the class teacher more fully at parents evenings and after end of year tests.
Step number two is do your homework... go to the open days and arrange visits during the working school day. Dont listen to playground gossip about any particular school. For every person who tells you how good a certain school is, there will always be another who can find fault.
Step 3 is to make sure you fill in all the forms accurately, including any that each individual school may request. Dont miss the deadline which is 23rd October 2009 for entry September 2010. Above all, dont despair, you are not alone!

Good luck and thanks for reading!
