State of Play
State of Play - What FLEA thought of it!
Directed by Kevin Macdonald. Certificate 12A
Our Flea reviewer was lucky enough to attend a pre release screening of State of Play and she told us it is most definitely a FLEA go see!. (It takes a lot to impress her, so this film must have been good!.) This is what she told us….. State of Play is approx 2 hours with excitement and thrills all the way. From the opening minutes of the film, your attention’s grabbed and you’re completely hooked. But don’t expect this film to be easy to follow. You could be mistaken into thinking that after the big opening, what could possibly happen next to beat that?. Well blink, and you may miss the next twist, as they just keep on coming. Rest assured, if you like your edgy thrillers, you will really enjoy this film.
If you tend to read film reviews or forums pre release, there are already some negative ones, complaining about the plot, the unbelievable aspects concerning the military and so on. Please ignore them, watch the trailer and then go see this film for yourself.
Whichever your view, the film boasts huge appeal thanks to highly convincing performances from Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren, Jeff Daniels, Robin Wright Penn and Rachel McAdams. All of the ‘well-knowns’ are in good measure for your viewing pleasure.
In summary, it is a very clever, modern and definitely thought provoking movie. When it ends, you’re left questioning certain moments but they don’t make you feel short changed and I believe that’s what the Director wanted. I would watch this film again !!!
