Hurstleigh is beautifully located in the prime but central area of Shire Lane, Chorleywood and is a unique concept in retirement accommodation. It was set up forty years ago by a group of Chorleywood residents as a Charitable Trust. It is managed by volunteers and is non-profit making. Its primary goal is to help residents and relatives of people living in Chorleywood and the surrounding areas to be geographically close and accessible to family while maintaining their independence in a comfortable and attractive environment and as part of an active and mutually supportive community.

Set in beautiful south-west facing grounds, Hurstleigh provides twenty self-contained apartments, each comprising a lounge with attached kitchenette, a bedroom, a bath/shower room with wash basin and toilet and a small store room/study.

The apartments are all fully carpeted and decorated, but are offered unfurnished so that residents can quickly feel ‘at-home’ by personalising the apartment with their own furnishings. Most of the apartments overlook the large and attractive rear grounds.

Common areas include a residents’ dining room and a delightfully large light and airy conservatory, surrounded by gardens on three sides.

Services for residents include an on-site laundry run by the house staff, a resident warden available 24 hours a day and adequate parking. It does not provide primary or secondary care, so residents must enjoy reasonable health and be independent.

Because Hurstleigh is managed by a committee of volunteers who give their time and expertise to help provide a secure home for retired seniors, apartments are available with rents based only on currents costs: maintenance, council tax and communal costs, Being near family and friends for a very reasonable rent which covers costs and maintenance is priceless.
