One Watford - Green Business Pledge

Readers of the last edition of the Flea may remember the article on the One Watford Green Business Pledge, which helps local businesses, community groups and schools commit to reducing their impact on the environment. Members of the Pledge receive newsletters offering tips, advice and access to grants that may be available to help with the cost of some of the more challenging actions outlined in the Pledge. Exclusive membership events and visits are also arranged. Membership is free of charge.

One Watford, the town’s local strategic partnership, is now pleased to announce the second annual Green Business Event, to be held on Wednesday 25 February 2009 5pm for a 5.30pm start at the Park Inn, St Albans Road, Watford. The event is open to non-members and will this year have an ethical theme. We have some inspirational speakers who can demonstrate that being environmentally sustainable and ethical which proves popular with customers, clients and staff can also be good for your bottom line.

  • Albert Tucker – a leading figure in the fair-trade movement and overseas development
  • Alan Gough – Head of Environmental Services at Watford Borough Council with responsibility for recycling, carbon management and climate change
  • Julia Fuller – Co-operative & Membership Officer for the Co-op, talking about corporate social responsibility
  • Duncan Goose - Director and Founder, Global Ethics Limited, a not-for-profit organisation whose primary remit is to raise funds for humanitarian projects in developing countries

There will be stands and exhibits on a green and ethical theme and also the opportunity for networking. The evening will be opened by Mayor Dorothy Thornhill and chaired by Roger Gagan, Chief Executive of Watford Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets are £10 to non-members, but if you sign up to the Pledge, admission is free of charge. To book your place, express an interest in exhibiting or to sign up to the Pledge, email onewatford@watford.gov.uk or call 01923 278066.
