How GREEN are WATFORD's Businesses
It is unlikely that anyone can have missed the facts about climate change and the effect it will have on the environment and our day to day lives – we need to change the way we behave now to stop things getting worse. Businesses, as well as individuals, have a role to play in this.
One Watford, the town’s local strategic partnership, has established the One Watford Green Business Pledge, which local businesses can sign up to free of charge to commit to reducing the damage caused to the environment.
There are three levels to the Pledge – Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Bronze level contains quick and easy actions for organisations of any size to take which can start to make a difference, such as reducing energy and water use and reusing equipment and furniture.
The Silver level lists more complex actions such as reducing the amount of waste produced and calculating the ‘carbon footprint’ of the business.
The Gold level contains bigger challenges such as switching to fuel-efficient vehicles and using renewable energy.
In return for signing the Pledge, organisations get a regular newsletter offering tips and advice as well as access to grants that may be available to help with the cost of some of the more challenging actions.
Exclusive events are also arranged and so far, Pledge members have visited Renewable Energy Systems in Kings Langley and BRE at Garston.
If your business, charity, voluntary group or school would like to join the One Watford Green Business Pledge, email onewatford@watford.gov.uk or call 01923 278066.
