Q. I have one child who is 4 years old. I work
from 9.30am to
5pm as an accounts assistant and want to
leave at 2.30 on two days to collect my child from nursery.
What can I do?
Parents of children under the age of 5 years (or if you have a disabled child, under the age of 18 years) have the right to request flexible working. You have one opportunity each year to make a written request to work flexibly. You can download a form from the Department of Business and Enterprise at: http://tinyurl.com/552u72
Your employer must consider the request you make and either agree to the change or provide good reasons why it is not possible. Should you not be satisfied with the answer you should obtain quick advice about your rights of bringing a claim to an employment tribunal.
Q. I have just started a new business
and have one member of staff. I want to ensure I start the
employment relationship in the correct way.
What do I have to include in her contract?
You need to ensure that you provide written terms and conditions of employment, in line with Section 1 Employment Rights Act 1996. This can be found at www.opsi.gov.uk/acts or you could contact us to draft the terms and conditions to match your particular requirements.
