A few years ago, my eldest daughter was knocked down outside her school, witnessed by her younger brother. Thankfully, she made a full recovery. I think we did too.
I say ‘I think’, because it’s hard to be sure with these things. It was traumatic for me, but it was certainly harder on my son who saw it happen. He felt somehow he should, or could have prevented it.
The subject remains emotive for me, particularly now the nights are drawing in.
Children are more at risk as drivers struggle to see them when they cross the road in dark coats and ride bikes without adequate lighting.
Brake, the road safety charity, have a Road Safety Week from 10th – 16th November 2008 to highlight the dangers and raise awareness.
