FREE SEMINAR - Lasting Powers of Attorney

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is something that every adult should have because it enables your affairs to be dealt with by people you trust if you become unable to do so.

Shirley Batten-Smith of Planet Wills invites you to a short workshop on Lasting Powers of Attorney. Her monthly FREE workshops are normally held on Wednesday mornings at Watford Indoor Bowls Club at Woodside (MAP).

The seminars are open to everyone, are free to attend and light refreshments are usually provided, but places must be booked in advance by calling 01923 460011 or sending your request by email to info@planetwills.co.uk.
Please mention flea on-line when booking your place. You can check dates for these workshops in the upcoming events section of this flea website - or search for "LPA" or "attorney" using the fleasearch box at top right of this (and every) page on the site.

None of us knows what tomorrow may bring.

Any of us may be badly injured or suffer a sudden illness that robs us of our mental capacity. Each year in UK, some 200,000 people suffer a stroke (that's one every 5 minutes!) and about 25,000 people are seriously injured in road accidents. (You're about 6000 times more likely to be seriously inured on Britain's roads than to win the lottery!).
The Department of Health estimates that up to 2million people in England and Wales lack the mental capacity to make some decisions for themselves!

None of those people expected it to happen to them - and loss of mental capacity is NOT something that only affects the elderly.

Very few prople have the foresight to prepare for such an unexpected but catastrophic change in their lives. Not doing so unfortunately brings many additional but avoidable problems for their families when such events occur.

THESE THINGS HAPPEN UNEXPECTEDLY
- they are not as uncommon as you might think!

Without an LPA, your family would have to go through a potentially long, difficult and potentially very expensive process, applying to the Court of Protection to grant them the right to deal with your affairs when you cannot. The Court will accept an LPA as conferring that right.

In this 90 minute seminar, Shirley will explain what an LPA is, why you should have an LPA and how you can easily create one for yourself.

Places are limited and MUST be reserved in advance.

To reserve your place, call Shirley on 01923 460011
or email info@planetwills.co.uk

The Office of the Public Guardian for public information, for practioners or corporate information (part of the Ministry of Justice) provides extensive information about Lasting Powers of Attorney and the Court of Protection as well as guidance booklets and downloadable forms for the two types of LPA. They also publish a very useful two-page leaflet about the Mental Capacity Act and how an LPA can protect your dependents and ensure your wishes are followed in the event you become unable to manage your own affairs.
