Dick Whittington And His Cat
presents.........
The Annual Pantomine to conclude it's centennial year 1908 - 2008
See Below for Panto Review by Chloe aged 9 years....
Dick Whittington and His Cat is a traditional pantomime adapted, written and directed for the Watford Palace stage by Joyce Branagh. Design is by Keith Orton.
Dale Superville & Peter Holdway return to panto at the Palace in 2008, after their successful appearances in Aladdin (2006) and Jack and the Beanstalk (2007). In this year's pantomime. Dale Superville will play Dick Whittinghton's loveable cat while Peter Holdway play the villain, King Rat..
It's an action-packed, thigh-slapping, swashbuckling show, deliriously daft, peppered with pop, and sprinkled with songs that celebrate the theatre's beginnings as a "Palace of Varieties" - a hundred years ago this December!
Dick Whittington and His Cat is a classic English Folktale, full of wonder and delight for audiences of all ages.
Long, long ago, there lived a poor boy called Dick Whittington. He had no mother and no father - and often nothing to eat. One day, he heard of the great city of London where, said everyone, even the streets were paved with gold. Dick decides to go to London to seek his fortune. There, he meets Alderman Fitzwarren and his beautiful daughter Alice, as well as panto dame Sarah the Cook, and the magical Fairy Bow Bells. And the rest is just a magical fairytale......
Hello! My name is Chloe, I am 9 years old and on Tuesday 2nd December I went to see Dick Whittington and his Cat!
My favourite character was Tommy the Cat and Alice. They were hilarious! The funniest line that Tommy the Cat said was "Can I just point out that I'm a cat, dressed up as a parrot, singing about a dog!!" Alice had to disguise herself so her father wouldn't notice her sailing away on a boat and when she was asked what her name was she said "Bob" and when asked what she did she said ".......er Builder". So they all sung 'Bob the Builder'!
Other really funny songs were from 'Spongebob Squarepants' and 'Titanic'. When the boat was sinking Sarah the Cook's hat was a spinning lighthouse. All of the costumes ware really great especially the 'shell suit' worn by Sarah which my Mummy told me used to be a really fashionable thing to wear, but this one was made out of 'real' shells! Also, Dick dressed as a girl in cropped top, big girly wig and sweat head band.
It was such a funny Pantomime that my cheeks ached from laughing so much. I would really, really recommend it for everyone as long as you like laughing!
